The Brief
Simon Cowell wanted a private cinema that shows every film in the format it was made in, with reference picture and full surround sound, in a room that still matches the style of a Beverly Hills estate.

What Made It Difficult
Plenty of high-end theaters look the part and fall short on performance. This room had to do both, which meant solving for:
- Anamorphic 2.40 presentation for true widescreen films
- One-touch switching between 2.40, 1.85, 1.78 and custom aspect ratios
- A very bright image with no projector noise in the room
- Full surround sound with every speaker hidden from view
- Studio-grade acoustics that leave the interior design intact
Each technical choice was judged on performance, and each design choice on how well it kept the room elegant.
How We Built It
Screen and masking
We specified a Stewart Filmscreen anamorphic 2.40 screen with variable masking. The masking reshapes itself for each source, whether 2.40, 1.85, 1.78 or another format, so the picture always fills the frame correctly.
Projection
A Runco three-chip DLP projector provides the brightness and resolution. We built a custom quiet enclosure around it that keeps it cool while keeping fan noise out of the seating area.
Hidden speakers
An acoustically transparent screen lets the front speakers sit directly behind the picture, so dialogue and effects come from where they appear on screen.
Surround processing and amplification drive a complete Dolby system, with in-wall, in-ceiling and on-wall speakers placed so none of the hardware interrupts the design.
Acoustics and finishes
David Frangioni designed the room acoustics and the custom paneling, which give the room reference-quality sound and double as a design feature. It plays like a professional screening room and still feels like part of the house.

Ozzy Osbourne’s First Home Studio
The Brief
For his first studio at home, Ozzy Osbourne wanted a room that could produce complete albums at a professional standard without leaving the property.
That meant a working production facility, not a demo room: drums, vocals, full-band sessions and mixes for commercial release. The studio and the work done in it appeared across two seasons of MTV’s The Osbournes.

What Made It Difficult
The studio had to handle:
- Professional drum tracking
- Isolated vocal recording
- Live recording with a full band
- Accurate mixing for commercial release
- Technical systems that make no noise in the room
- A layout that fits inside a family home
Ozzy also had one personal request: a classic red RECORDING light outside the door so everyone knew when a session was running.
How We Built It
Recording rooms
We designed a drum booth, an isolated vocal booth and a live room, each tuned for clean tracking and comfortable for performers.
Control room
A Control24 surface and Genelec monitors support accurate mix decisions that translate outside the room. Pro Tools HDX runs recording and editing, with a full set of industry-standard plugins.
Machine room
Computers and processing live in a separate machine room so the control room stays quiet. Double-pane glass doors keep sight lines open while blocking fan and hardware noise.
The red light
The custom red recording light does its job and became a signature of the room, a piece of professional studio culture brought into the house.
